Igloo Letterpress has selected the walkable, artistic heart of Worthington as the site of their new storefront. Grand opening is set to coincide with Old Worthington Market Day celebration on September 19, 2009.
If printing presses sound outdated in an increasingly digital world, Igloo Letterpress proprietor Allison Chapman will certainly change your mind. Or just ask one of the thousands of people she has taught to make a book from scratch!
In addition to being a great source for unique handcrafted work, Igloo is also an active art studio where customers can tap into their own creative sides. Project-based classes, interactive tours, and open studio time will give visitors a chance to try their hand at making everything from pop-up books to wedding invitations.
Chapman is a natural teacher. Her expertise is paired with a conviction that creating something is an empowering experience, and she has always enjoyed helping others achieve that satisfaction of a job well done.
Starting on her career path early, Chapman enjoyed “helping” her granddad in his hobby printshop. Later, at the Smithsonian Institution’s American History Museum, she happily fielded visitor questions while keeping America’s most celebrated presses running. Prior to relocating to Ohio, Chapman spent over ten years as an Instructor and Education Director at the renowned Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
Today, with her granddad’s equipment forming the core of her shop, Chapman will be bringing the art –and experience – of the handmade to our community.
